Data protection officer
At BaFin, the Data Protection Officer works towards compliance with the German Federal Data Protection Act (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz – BDSG) and other data protection provisions. However, he is not responsible for supervision and control of the enterprises supervised by BaFin.
According to the German Federal Data Protection Act, BaFin, as a public body of the Federal Government, must appoint a data protection officer. As a self-regulating entity, the data protection officer is directly subordinate to the management.
The purpose of the German Federal Data Protection Act is to protect the individual against impairments of his/her right of personality or impairment of his/her rights to determine disclosure and use of personal data as a result of dealings with his/her personal data.
