Curriculum Vitae
Nikolas Speer has been Chief Executive Director of Banking Supervision at the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht – BaFin) since April 2025. Prior to this, he held various positions at HSBC, including Chief Risk Officer and Member of the Management Board at HSBC Germany from 2021 to 2023. From 2023, he was also Head of Credit Risk at HSBC Continental Europe in Paris.
He began his professional career in 1999 at Oliver Wyman where his final role was as Project Manager. From 2003, he was Head of Strategy at Vivico Real Estate. In 2004, he moved to Commerzbank to work in credit risk controlling. This was followed by further positions in the areas Group Strategy (2005-2008), as Head of Strategy in Corporate Banking (2008-2011) and most recently as Managing Director in Credit Risk Management (2012-2018).
Nikolas Speer studied industrial engineering at the University of Karlsruhe.
