European Supervisors Education Initiative (ESE)

BaFin has been a member of the European Supervisor Education Initiative (ESE) since 2009. ESE's objective is to enable financial supervisors in Europe to obtain a high-level qualification in accordance with uniform standards. To this end, it combines the practical experience of supervisors with the theoretical knowledge of academic research.

The founding members of ESE include BaFin, the Deutsche Bundesbank, the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) and Goethe University's Goethe Business School. Since ESE's foundation, the National Banks of Luxembourg and the Czech Republic have also joined ESE.

At present, ESE regularly organises more than 20 seminars a year, covering topics such as Supervisory Colleges, supervision of rating agencies, the requirements of Basel III and risk models in banks. Furthermore, ESE holds a biennial conference with high-level representatives of supervisory authorities and national banks as well as experts from academia and industry.
