The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) is based at the Bank for International Settlements. It was created in 1974 by the central banks of the G10 countries.
It consists of delegates from 27 countries representing the central banks and supervisory authorities of the member states. The Committee devises supervisory standards and recommendations for banking supervision – such as, for example, the Basel Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision and the capital adequacy rules of the Basel Framework. In addition, the Committee aims to improve cooperation between the competent national supervisory authorities.
