Stand:updated on 01.01.2021 Investment Funds Database

This public database is maintained by BaFin and contains information on domestic and foreign-based retail investment funds (Publikums-Investmentvermögen) which are marketed in Germany (pursuant to sections 294, 310, 316 or 320 of the German Investment Code (Kapitalanlagegesetzbuch – KAGB)) and domestic depositaries for retail investment funds (sections 68 et seq., 80 et seq. of the KAGB)

The database of investment funds contains information on the following topics:

  • Retail investment funds (domestic UCITS, EU UCITS, EU AIFs and foreign AIFs) which are authorised to be marketed in Germany pursuant to sections 294, 310, 316 or 320 of the German Investment Code (Kapitalanlagegesetzbuch – KAGB)
  • Domestic depositaries and trustees for retail investment funds pursuant to section 68 et seq. of the KAGB or section 80 et seq. of the KAGB

Before using the database of investment funds, please read the following information and notes:

Notes on the database

The database contains information organised into two overviews, which the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) publishes on a voluntary basis. While all information has been collected with utmost care and diligence, BaFin accepts no liability for the completeness or correctness thereof, or for any other legal claims derived on that basis.

In principle, the database is updated on a daily basis. However, given that delays may occur in the processing of notifications of the intention to commence marketing, the database may not be up to date.

Notes on the list of retail investment funds

The list of retail investment funds contains all German and foreign-based investment funds which are authorised to be marketed to retail investors in Germany. The list includes investment funds issued on the basis of the UCITS Directive, referred to as funds complying with the UCITS Directive or UCITS. If these funds are foreign-based, they may be marketed in Germany pursuant to section 310 of the KAGB, provided they have successfully completed the prescribed notification procedure (EU passporting regime).

In addition, the list also contains all alternative investment funds (AIFs) which pursuant to sections 316 or 320 of the KAGB may be marketed to retail investors in Germany on the basis of the AIFM Directive, provided BaFin has authorised them for marketing.

The list contains not only individual funds but also funds comprising a component of an umbrella scheme ("investment compartment/sub-pools of assets"). If an investment compartment is part of a search result, the umbrella fund of which it is a component is also always listed.

Notes on the list of depositaries/trustees

The list of depositaries and trustees includes all depositaries domiciled in Germany which, on the basis of sections 68 et seq. of the KAGB or sections 80 et seq. of the KAGB, hold the assets of retail investment funds (UCITS or AIFs) issued in Germany. The list also includes trustees for closed-end common AIFs which have assumed the responsibilities of a depositary pursuant to section 80 (3) of the KAGB.

The detailed overview of the depositary/trustee provides further information about the types of investment funds on behalf of which they carry out depositary activities.

How to use the database

You can search for an investment fund by its name ("Fonds" field) or its BaFin fund identifier code ("BaFin-ID" field). Enter the name or ID number in the field and click on Search ("Suche"). You can access the entire list of funds by clicking on Search ("Suche") without entering anything into the search fields. You can filter the results by type of investment fund (all types of funds, German funds, German UCITS, German AIF, all foreign-based funds, foreign-based UCITS, foreign-based AIF).

The hitlist contains information on umbrella schemes (in the case of investment compartments) and management companies, which are presented as hyperlinks. By clicking on the name of an umbrella fund, you can see all of its investment compartments. If you click on the ID number of the management company, you will be sent to the details page for it. There, you will find the management company's address and all retail investment funds managed by this management company which were notified for marketing in Germany.

You can also search directly for the investment fund's management company ("Verwaltungsgesellschaft" field). You can only search using the name of the company, but not the company's BaFin-ID.
The management company's ID is presented as a hyperlink in the hitlist. Clicking on the ID opens the detailed overview.

You can search for domestic depositaries and trustees of retail investment funds by the depositary's or trustee's name or BaFin-ID.
The depositary's or trustee's ID is presented as a hyperlink in the hitlist. Clicking on the ID opens the detailed overview. There, you will find the types of investment funds for which they carry out depositary activities.

You can use keywords when searching for investment funds, management companies, depositaries and trustees; these will appear in the hitlist as hyperlinks or as parts of names. The search function is case-insensitive and includes special characters, including ä, ö, or ü. Placeholders and wildcards are not valid search criteria. Alternatively, you can click on a letter beneath the search fields to see all results beginning with that letter.

By clicking on the column headers, you can sort the results alphabetically or numerically, either in ascending or descending order.
You can export results either in CSV or XML format using the buttons beneath the results.
