Frank Grund is to become the new Chief Executive Director of Insurance and Pension Funds Supervision at the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht – BaFin), the Federal Cabinet decided on Wednesday, 16 September 2015. "I'm delighted that we've found such an experienced and knowledgeable insurance practitioner for this important role," explained the BaFin President. Grund said the change of perspective was an exciting challenge for him. "I'm really looking forward to bringing my many years of experience to the supervisory authority," the future Executive Director said. He noted that the opportunity to make a direct contribution to the move to Solvency II was very attractive. "This is a challenging task for both the supervisors and companies, as is the increasing interconnectedness and internationalisation of supervision."

Grund spent many years in management positions at insurance undertakings, but has not been involved in the operational business since 2013. He is, or was, a member of various supervisory boards in the insurance industry, among other things. Grund will give up all other posts when he joins BaFin.

From 2008 to 2013, Grund was CEO of Deutscher Ring Sach and Deutscher Ring Leben. He headed Basler Versicherungen Deutschland for a total of nine years up to 2012. Grund started his career in 1986 at the former Gerling-Versicherungsgruppe, where he worked until 2003 and where, after working in a number of management positions in various areas of the business, he was appointed a member of the management board.

The 57-year-old lawyer has a doctorate in law and political science from the University of Bonn. He took his state examinations in law in Bonn and Düsseldorf.
