Erscheinung:17.02.2016 Béatrice Freiwald to become new Chief Executive Director

Béatrice Freiwald is to become Chief Executive Director of the newly created Directorate of Internal Administration and Legal Affairs at the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bundesanstalt für FinanzdienstleistungsaufsichtBaFin), the Federal Cabinet decided on Wednesday, 17 February 2016.

The Directorate replaced the previous Directorate of Regulatory Services/Human Resources at the beginning of 2016 and includes the Department for Authorisation Requirement and Enforcement relating to Unauthorised Business. Freiwald will take up the post on 1 March 2016. She succeeds Gabriele Hahn, who headed the Directorate of Regulatory Services/Human Resources until 30 November 2015.

Freiwald has many years of supervisory experience, having joined the Federal Banking Supervisory Office (Bundesaufsichtsamt für das KreditwesenBAKred) in 1998. In 2002 BAKred became part of the integrated financial supervisor, BaFin. Over the years Freiwald rose to become first Head of Section and then Head of Department in Insurance Supervision, most recently gaining responsibility for group supervision and property/casualty insurance.
Before her time at BaFin, the 48-year-old lawyer worked as a lawyer and lecturer. She took her state examinations in law in Hamburg.
