Erscheinung:12.03.2025 | Topic Unauthorised business, Consumer protection Capital Group: BaFin warns about identity theft

The Federal Financial Supervisory Authority BaFin warns consumers against investment offers, in particular via WhatsApp and the app „CGGERPRO“, which allegedly originate from Capital International Management Company, Niederlassung Deutschland (CIMC), or another company of the brand “Capital Group”. This is a case of identity theft.

According to information available to BaFin, financial and investment services are being provided without the required authorisation. The services are not actually offered by Capital Group or CIMC, based in Frankfurt, which are also not connected to offers on the websites eurofinancedaily.com and globalfinexp.com. This is a case of identity theft by unknown perpetrators. Capital Group does not maintain any WhatsApp channels and can only be reached via the website www.capitalgroup.com.

Anyone conducting banking business or providing financial or investment services in Germany may do so only with authorisation from BaFin. However, some companies offer these services without the required authorisation. Information on whether companies have been authorised by BaFin can be found in BaFin’s database of companies.

The information provided by BaFin is based on Section 37 (4) of the German Banking Act (KWG) and Section 10 (7) of the German Crypto Markets Supervision Act (KMAG).

Please be aware:

BaFin, the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BundeskriminalamtBKA) and the German state criminal police offices (Landeskriminalämter) recommend that consumers seeking to invest money online should exercise the utmost caution and do the necessary research beforehand in order to identify fraud attempts at an early stage.
